Family businesses are fundamental to the UK economy - an Institute of Family Business report in 2008 suggests they account for 30% of UK GDP and 40% (9.5 million) of UK private sector jobs. They are not just small businesses either with 10% of the FTSE 100 being family controlled.

Sadly, only 10% of family businesses survive beyond the third generation. These programmes - presented jointly with nationally recognised family business specialist Howard Hackney of Howard Hackney LLP (the good looking one on the left) - explain why this is and offer thoughts on how best to ensure survival down the generations, assuming this is what the family wants, of course.

Whilst every business is unique, the issues and solutions are rarely so and the programmes outline a methodology to address issues and a matrix of integrated solutions that can help deal with them.
